In his essay “In Praise of Shadows” (1933), Jun’ichiro Tanizaki illustrates the relationship between sensory perceptions, portraying the traditional Japanese sweet Yôkan to reveal how ambient darkness can enhance its savoury experiences. Inspired by this remark, I have created a work on light and shadow.
